Showing up on search engines is one of the most critical ways to increase website traffic and expose your content, product or service to people who might be interested in what you have to offer. Most of the major search engines utilize an algorithm to determine where a website ranks.
Increasing your site’s Google traffic
1. Edited the title of each page to be different (using the “All In One SEO” plugin for my blog) as in: title keyword, Web Developer
2.Built an XML Sitemap with the “XML Sitemap” plugin
3.Added Google Stats and Statcounter stats to keep track of my progress
4. Added my business to Google Places
5. Verified my business on Google
6. Checked out my website on Woorank and changed as many items as possible – most important seemed to be the H1-H6 Headings on a site
7. Wrote high-quality articles, articles that provided valuable information to the user
8. Created a Google+ page
9. Make sure each post is about something specific (SEO, for example!). With the new panda update, it’s important to use synonyms, not repeat the same word millions of times.
10. Customize Description Meta Tags for each page – This is what shows up under your web page title, so make it a good “hook” so people will click on it!
11. Used WordPress’s built-in functionality to change the link structure to “KimJoyFox.com/my-journey-through-seo” so the keywords were now in the URL as well
12. Created a 404 Page
13. Added “alt” to all images with keywords, and “title” to images when useful
14. Text readability should make your pages easy to read, break up blocks of text and create short paragraphs
15. Try to use Google Adwords to check how competitive before deciding on it. Besure that the keywords has enough searches. Try using broadkeywords too
16. Keep the structure, navigation and URL structure of your site simple enough for search engines to follow
